Had a great week, meeting many YES campaigners across Ontario. I was in London on the morning of the 2nd to meet with a motivated group of Organizers. Went down to the Delta Armouries to finalize the booking of 50 rooms for those last minute Delegates that will need a place to stay. I also made a trip over to the Convention Centre for planning purposes – more on that later!
After London, I was off to Brantford, then St. Catherines, Burlington and ended up in Mississauga for the night.
On the 3rd, I was off to Sudbury. Last time I was in Sudbury was 15 years ago in the summer, this time it was winter, there was a storm and cell phone reception was a bit shoddy. Met with another YES campaigner and everything is falling into place there.
Off to North Bay, more snow, very dark, but got there in one piece. Met a few more Organizers and am certain that we will have a great turnout.
In the morning, I was off to Ottawa. Arrived in Ottawa and found more snow. I met with our Ottawa Regional Organizer, we covered some issues and began touching base with over 40 YES campaign organizers and supporters. Had a great steak for dinner, met with the troops and had a great night.
Next morning I was in Cassleman (Glengarry Prescott Russell) and then backtracked to Sharbot Lake in Lanark Frontenac for their Delegate Selection Meeting.
I want to thank Randy Hillier and the President, Nick Drakich for their very gracious hospitality. I was very impressed with the organization and execution of both the AGM and DSM.
After that meeting, I was off to Kingston to meet with our Regional Organizer. I am excited by the level of support and enthusiasm and look forward meeting more people from K-Town.
Was able to get into Oshawa early enough to meet with our GTA East Regional Organizer. Chicken Wings, Beer, Motel 6 and YES, more organizing!
In the morning I met with our Youth Chair, discussed Campus Clubs and Youth Associations. I have to say that I was very pleased with our progress and look forward to a strong youth contingent at the convention!
In the afternoon, I was invited to attend a meeting of Oshawa and surrounding area Organizers. Good bunch of guys in who I have every confidence that they will deliver a resounding YES slate for the region! I want to thank John for hosting the meeting.
It was a great trip. I pushed all the way home to Windsor that night. Got some sleep and right back at it again today!
Things look really good out there. Regional Organizers have been issued their delegate numbers to be achieved for the YES campaign to be successful. There is still a lot of work ahead but I am very confident based on the efforts that have already been made by so many of YOU.
Now is the time to dig in, make those extra few phone calls, ensure that memberships are renewed, get people out to every meeting, take notes, and report accurate information to your Regional Organizers.
At the Convention in London, there will be no doubt that the Big Blue Machine is alive and well!!! |
