John Tory has written to the party faithful, taking responsibility for losing the election and pledging to change. But he misses the point. This is not about him, it’s about what is best for the party. It’s about winning the next election.
He writes, “accountability always rests with the leader”. So let’s hold him to account.
What does John Tory bring to the leadership? He has raised a lot of money and put the party on a good financial footing. This is important, but we expect more than that from a leader. We expect our leader to show good judgment, and to win.
It is generally accepted that the last election was lost because of Tory’s decision to promote the faith-based school funding issue. He now promises that the issue is dead, but the damage has been done. Voters will always associate John Tory with faith-based funding - it is the kind of mistake that will never go away.
Unfortunately, this is not the only example of Tory’s political mismanagement.
He ran Kim Campbell’s federal election campaign (approving the attack ads mocking Chretien’s facial deformity) that saw the Conservative party reduced to just two seats. He ran against David Miller for Mayor of Toronto and lost. In the last election, he made the decision to run against a popular Liberal cabinet minister and lost.
John Tory has not demonstrated good judgment, nor has he demonstrated that he can win. His track record is not good.
It has been said that “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. We must learn from the past, and make the changes necessary to ensure a victory in 2011.
Can John Tory change?
Can we take that risk?
This party has talent and depth. We have a number of prominent MPPs who can not only step up to the plate, but can hit a home run. We deserve a leader who’s a winner - someone with vision, political insight, and sound judgment who will inspire and motivate this party to victory.
John Tory led us to defeat in the last election, and now we must endure four more years of Liberal government. Let’s do all we can to make sure it’s only four.

John Tory had his chance. The memberhsip will now decide. John Tory should step aside and save the party from this infighting.
He cannot lead a united party at this point

John Tory has to go. We need a leader that can not only compete against Dalton McGuinty, one that can defeat him. John Baird, Tim Hudak, Belinda Stronach, maybe even Laurie Scott and Lisa MacLeod are people who should really take a shot at it. There are many out there who are better than Tory. I just hope one comes forward.

Leadership Review
What happened to Tory's slogan for leadership being "4 Not 8". Well John, you've made sure that it is actually gonna be 8. Time for a change! A promise made, a promise broken.

I have been a Conservative voter for 40 yrs. My candidate in North-Bay Mr.Vrebosh lost by a mere 200 odd votes, because of Mr.Tory's stand on schools. Because of his stand many of my fellow conservative voters changed their vote. Mr. Tory should not even consider staying at the helm,or the party should get rid of him. Does he not realize after not even getting elected, the voters are telling him how they feel about his views. Hopefully the party will do the right thing & choose a new leader that will listen to what the party has to say & not just do or say what he or she wants, This is my opinion, & that of many others.
